SPRING NEWS AND NOTES
Finally! As I exit a warm corner of the building, my perennial
friends, the Crocus family, greets me warmed by the daily sun. It
is a great and welcome site indeed. With any luck, the “in like
a lion and out like a lamb” deal will go quickly. That said, spring
is a busy time for our students. Recently, our UCONN colleagues
were here to speak on ways to enhance our Early College Education
(ECE) program. Presently, Juniors can elect to enroll in the American
Studies course (AMST 1201) in our Language Arts and History Gr. 11
courses. It is a wonderful and very inexpensive way to receive college
credit while in high school. I will be presenting this program to
sophomores soon who need to register by 06/01/13. More details soon!
Juniors should remember to sign up online @ www.collegeboard.com for
the June 1st SAT on Fishers. The online deadline is May 2nd. Please
be aware that there are costly penalties for missing this deadline.
The cost is $50 and the fee for Subject tests (you may take up to
3 of the 1 hr. tests) is $23+$12 for each test taken. Subject tests
are typically taken when a student has garnered the most content
possible from a subject area (i.e. after Spanish 4 or 5 for that
World Language).
Seniors are busy weighing college options. Remember, families do
not have to make a decision until May 1st. Weigh your options and
above all, be a wise consumer. I am happy to be a part of any family
discussion as well and am only an email or phone call away.
We are very excited to be exploring and implementing the UConn
Renzulli model of learning that takes gifted and talented opportunities
and expands it to all students. To that end, we will be revising
our FI Program of Study to include more opportunities for individualized
learning and independent study possibilities as well. Look for that
as we begin the scheduling process this spring. In closing, I look
forward to seeing all of you for our graduation ceremony on June
25th, for our very talented seniors as they transition into life.
Respectfully, Gil Amaral
